The Skate Mag 58 - The photo issue (apparently)
I always get excited when i see a photo issue has come out, i'm usually dissapointed and this is no different. This is only the second photo issue for The Skate Mag, i didn't see the first one but i'm guessing it was better than this. I think it came out pretty fast after they started the mag, within the first 10 issues anyway, before digital was everywhere. Also the fact that it was a new magazine probably had a lot of the photographers motivated. I don't want to start ranting so here are the very few photos that i liked.
Atiba used to churn out great photos like there was no tomorrow. Always one step ahead of the game his photos were amazing. I really like this one, it's a lot better that the stuff he's been doing recently. This was the best shot in there for me.
Chet Childress is a beast, look at all the shit peeling off the walls. I don't have to explain this photo, the trick is crazy.
Ollie photos are hard to make look bad. People lurking in the shot can sometimes disstract you from the trick, i think it works well here. Plus Jack Sabback is in my top 3 glasses wearing skaters.
Nice work on the Osiris ad Stew!
Thats it for the photo issue, pretty lame, there are better photos in a normal issue. Ah well, maybe in 5 years when they do another one it will be better, maybe....

Thursday night skate
Good news, i didn't delete the photos of Mark Burrows from last week! I couldn't however post then until now as the prongs on my memory card reader bent and had to wait for a new one to arrive. So here they are along with photos from this week hot skate at Transgression!!!
Mark Burrows -Disco Spin Revert.......
and a Madonna to tail.
Aaron is ripping and consistant. Melon Disasters, frontside and backside, check the bend on that board!
He's not scared to flip the board either, Backside Flip nae bother!
Seth was also ripping. I've never seen him skate before but he's pretty darn good!
Ally-oop Disaster?
Bobby Baillie was there again, he took a few slams on this but got there in the end. Check the Michael J Fox tail skid out the entire length of the park!
Apologies again to Grant Baillie, he was so upset i didn't get his Kickflip up the step up. Next week for sure son!

Monthly Mags
I'm going to do my best do post my favourite photos from the newest monthly U.S skate mags. It might be an advert, feature, interview, or just a bangin' photo.
I'll get the ball rolling withn my favourites from Skateboarder Feb 2009.
What a way to start, Bobby Puleo could take a shit on a block and it would make a good photo. If this were anyone else doing a backside tailslide it would more than likely be scoffed at. Banger of a photo.
Joel Meinholtz - backside 180 fakie nosegrind.
You don't really see much of this guy, i don't know too much about him either, sick photo though.
Joey Pepper - Hurricane.
This is another dude you don't see much of. I really liked his part in Aesthetics - Ride or Die Vol.1 in 2001. Hopefully we will see a new section from him soon now that he's on Expedition One.
Van Wastell - Variel flip.
Really like this one, i love how there's nobody lurking about in the background, just an massive empty warehouse. Skateboarder has a full section dedicated to him. If you're a fan you should definately find yourself a copy. R.I.P
Mike Anderson - Front blunt.
Great timing on this photo. Relatively unknown until last year, he now skates for the likes of Krooked, es, Matix, and Spitfire. Check him out at The Berrics
Cornbread? I've never heard of this guy and never seen this trick before.
Last up is a Fourstar ad, no explanation needed. DAMN!!!

Thursday night, Skate night.
I heard that the 8pm-10pm sesh down at Transgression had it going on, i thought i'd check it out for myself and maybe even shoot a few photos for the blog.
I did manage to get a few shots done, but unfortunately i had a little problem. I ran out of space on my memory card, so when i got home i transferred all the good to my hard drive, well i thought i had. I somehow managed to delete the sequences i shot with Mark Burrows. I must've made him try the 'Disco Spin Revert' for about twenty minutes, sorry Mark, next week for sure!
I only actually saved these two shots from Bobby Baillie.
Backside lipslide down the rail first try for the camera.
And a monster of a kicklip over the big side of the driveway. I'm a bit bummed that i deleted Marks photos, but even more upset that i didn't manage to shoot Grant Baillies banger of a kickflip up the step-up.
Next week Grant!

Sidewalk 148
The Focus boys have had a very productive month. The latest issue of Sidewalk host some good photos of Focus Team members.
First off, Colin Kennedy gets the back cover with this bangin' Thunder ad.
Just when you thought that every trick had been thrown down this infamous double set, think again. I can't even recall a sequence of this trick being puplished in ages, if at all! I'm definately wrong there but it's a great advert.
Next up is the first of Mark Burrows photos. This man is clocking up the coverage this month!
Shot at the U.K mini ramp champs by my second favourite Shiner employee Jerome. You could say the nosepick was Marks trademark trick, not sure if he'd agree with that, but a good photo none the less.
Next up is Benson.
It's also taken from the U.K mini ramp chanps, i'm not sure how he does it but he seems be getting everywhere.
Last but not least is the second sighting of Mark Burrows.
This is one of my favourite Heathen ads so far, not because i shot the photo, but because i shot the photo. Turned out pretty good if you ask me.
Awesome!

Kingpin 61
I Picked up the latest issue of Kingpin today. It has a great article on Glasgow featuring a lot of Focus riders which is sick. The photos were shot by master lensman Alex Irvine and the writting by everyone's favourite scottish pro and all round nice guy, Colin Kennedy.
Here are the highlights:
Tom Shimmin - Backside Flip
Everyones favourite late night caller Andy White - Switch Heelflip.
Div with a Tailblock. (I know what you're thinking, keep that sh*t in the parks!)
Tom Shimmin again with a Noseblunt.
Colin Kennedy with a steezy Back tail.
There's a few more photos in there from the likes of Jamie Bolland and Paul Silvester, you should definately go out and buy a copy if you can.

Yeah Daewon!
Some footage from the other day. We skated the Broomhill kicker then came across that manuel pad on the wall for the first time after walking past it so often and not noticing it. Wasn't the most productive of days and Alex almost ruined his slip on's but we got a couple of tricks for the video.

Andy White line
This is an old line we filmed a couple of years back when Focus had just opened the Glasgow store at Kings Court. I think the conditions in this clip fit the kind of weather were having now; cold and damp!
Andy Line >>
I've also been putting together a small edit of alot of old footage i've filmed with Tom, Andy and Matt so check back soon for that.
